Ω medium: an improvisation devised to test the latency of the internet connections and recording software we were working with

≈ correspondence improvisation: musician_1 recorded an improvisation and sent it to musician_2, who had to record their improvised response upon first listen

≠ fragment: a selection from a longer take

/ call and response: solo improvisations in sequence

∆ film score: composition using a short film to establish a shared timeline

√ sculpture: a subtractive improvisation+composition experiment involving multiple layered takes done to film, chiselled down to highlight one piano and one guitar track at any point in time, without changing the precise location of that take in the film's timeline

º sound-world: a composition/improvisation depicting real/imagined worlds

moments, remote is the second album by Indo-German piano-guitar duo Tinctures, created during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, creatively engaging with the challenges faced by musicians attempting to play together online, due to the temporal latency inherent in even the fastest internet connections.

Many of these pieces were recorded in real time while on an internet call, using latency almost as a third band member; others were recorded with differing approaches to establish a shared timeline, such as film score, sculpture, or correspondence improvisations (see track symbols).
